Blanco – Explore The Heart and Hub of the Texas Hill Country

Blanco, TX

Welcome to Blanco – a tiny gem tucked in the heart of the Hill Country! Located an hour from both Austin and San Antonio, Blanco offers the prototypical Texas experience.

Start by taking advantage of one of the more conveniently located state parks. Blanco State Park is 105 acres of fun located right off U.S. Highway 281. The park’s most popular activity is fishing. The Blanco River is teeming with bass, rainbow trout, catfish, and perch. Guests can obtain all the fishing equipment needed at the park for free as part of the park ranger’s Learn-To-Fish program- you don’t even need a fishing license!  The constant sixty-eight degree water temperature and direct sunlight guarantees the perfect swimming experience during those hot Texas months.

If you are looking to be immersed in everything Old West, stop by the Buggy Barn. This unique location has over 140 covered wagons and buggies- some used as props in Hollywood movies! A mock-up of an old western town called Pine Moore is on site as well and is a great place for memorable pictures.  Another Texas-themed activity is the Travis P Trail Rides.  This is the spot in Blanco for everything equine. Appraise your cowboy skills and take a trail ride through the rugged beauty of the surrounding area. Or try your hand at the venerable vaquero art of roping. These activities can be done individually or as a group.

Real Ale Brewing - Blanco, TX

After all of this outdoor action, you will want to stop by Real Ale.  Blanco’s premier pet friendly brewer since 1996, Real Ale offers guided tours and a tap room tasting experience.  If wine is more to your liking, Blanco offers a number of first-class wine tours of the many vineyards tucked away amongst the hills. Central Texas has soil composition and similar clime to Italy, so it is the perfect atmosphere in which to grow the grapes to produce the perfect bottle of wine.

Finish your tour of Blanco by stopping off at the visitor center and museum at the Old Blanco Courthouse.  A marvel in architecture, the 130 year old building is lovingly restored to its original splendour. Local vendors selling mostly handcrafted wares are on display at Market Day. Held every third Saturday from March through November on the courthouse grounds, Market Day is a great chance to mix with locals and tourists alike and pick up a one- of- a kind handcrafted treat.

With plenty to do and beautiful views, Blanco, Texas is the perfect stop or primary destination on your trek through the Hill Country.
