If nightlife is what you’re looking for, San Marcos has that in spades. Cheatham Street Warehouse is revered for its Wednesday night singer-songwriter circles- it is where a young George Strait got his start!  The San Marcos Square is where you will find tons of restaurants, bars, shops, and the newly opened LBJ museum. Catch a play at Texas State University from the talented Theatre and Dance students or a football game at the newly renovated Bobcat Stadium where the NCAA Division II Bobcats play.

The crystal clear San Marcos River runs right through the middle of town and is the soul of this great city. According to Native American legend it is the real location of the Fountain of Youth. You can tube all year long, partake in a night paddle board tour, or kayak the 75.2 miles of its calming waters.  You can also catch the beginning of the world famous Texas Water Safari in June. This 262 mile kayak race begins in San Marcos and ends at the Gulf of Mexico. With its constant temperature of 72 degrees, the river is always  an option.

Located just outside of San Marcos is  the town of Martindale if you prefer a little slower pace.  Martindale, established in 1855, is best known in recent years as a favorite Hollywood destination for filming movies.   “A Perfect World”, starring Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner, and “The Newton Boys”, starring Matthew McConaughey and Ethan Hawke were filmed there.
