Driftwood is a beautiful (tiny) Texas town in the heart of the Hill Country. Although the population may be small, the heart of this quaint Texas town is huge. Roughly 40 minutes from Austin and under two hours from San Antonio, the history of Driftwood is rather straightforward. As a result, the hospitality and charm is genuine and welcoming.

Mid-1800’s: First settlers begin to arrive
Late-1800’s: Post office established, as well as a school, Methodist church, mill and general store
1920’s: Less than 20 permanent residents remain
2010: Population of 144

Annual Camp Ben Reunion

Annual Camp Ben ReunionIn mid-June, the Annual Camp Ben Reunion descends upon the popular campground for four days of the best of Americana, bluegrass, and country music in Texas.

Dating back to 1896, the gathering comprised Civil War Confederate Veterans. Around 1930, it grew to the largest United Confederate Veterans Camp in the South.

According to legend, the reunion date was at the mid-point between cotton plant cutting and harvesting and the full moon.

One thing is for sure, this annual reunion has been going on for more than 120 years and is a spectacle to enjoy time and again.
